Faverolles Thread

Ya I am betting if they got them locally it was from her post pictures when you get them I think I spelled her last name wrong sorry for that as Dick knows name spelling isn't my strong suit his last name is spelled Boulanger and I have been spelling it Bourlanger for a while now! Sorry if it caused any confusion.

I just came in from checking on the trio of Blue and Black Faverolles that I picked up earlier today and I'm so very sad... the rooster has died. When I got them home and set them up in their temporary "separate from the rest of the flock" housing I noticed that the roo was really panting alot, so I immediately gave him some water and after a bit, he seemed to perk up... I thought he would be fine. The 2 girls seem to have settled in nicely. It was only about 2 hours in the car and I had the ac running the whole time. I'm so bummed out about this. I really hope these hens make it... I was so excited to get these... and now I'm just sad and worried about them.

Oh man I am so sorry to hear that being moved is stressful he may have been very fat or just stressed out from being caught. Often birds get more stressed then we may think from little changes in there lives my BBS birds still aren't completely settled in. I would say just avoid stressing the hens at all costs. Faverolles seem very easily heat stressed as well especially the LF so that could be why. I am so so so sad to hear about that! If you contact Dick or Pamela I am sure that they might either provide you with a new rooster or eggs for the betterment of the project now that you have those two hens. My black bantam rooster is going on a diet ha ha Leisha you were right about him he is a little piggy. Again I am so sorry to hear about that its always so hard to lose birds!

No problem birds are strange creatures its not your fault. I feel like when you said he was a huge bird he may have been very fat and fat birds get heat stressed much more easily and can be affected much more then a normal bird by the heat. There is no way you could have known you didn't know his background or anything! It just breaks me up to hear about it hope you can find another boy.
