...I think my humidity ran too high...anyway, I contacted Nicholas, and am going to give it one more go...if it doesn't work this time, I'm going to wait until it cools off more...

When was he planning on sending you more eggs? If it is soon, you might wanna wait. I really think the heat in shipping has something to do with it, but I could be wrong. Gonna be hot this way this week. They don't call them the dog days of summer for nothing.

Hey Peter, how's it going? This medicine is kicking my butt. Can't sleep. So I thought I would ask you how your hatches are going?

1 of 2. but from the hen i need more of so that's cool. something that might help with the sleep. you can get it at most grocery store. sleepy time tea. double the number of bags you use and it might work for you. here's hoping it does. there's nothing more stressful than not being able to sleep. u r in my thoughts.-)

Thanks YEAH I slept 6 hours LOL

I think today is chicken inventory day. Plan on going thru them and see what I am keeping or not. The chicks are growing fast. Some of them outside will go to the auction this Saturday, i know that for sure. They show no promise, so why not.

It is true that shipping eggs in this heat can either make or break you.

Looks like your off to a good start. Need work on the beards. The beards and muffs should look like three separate parts. Maybe its the picture but I seem to see a black feather in the neck of the lavender. From what I've read about lavenders is if the bird in question has any black feathers then its really a blue splash. Lavender should replace any black feathers. Do you have pictures of the parents?
Dick

Dick,
I checked the lav girl over and it must have just been a split in the fathers, she has no black in her anywhere. I guess I'll just keep breeding them back to my pure favs in order to imporve the beard/muffs (which are there, but desperately need work). Any suggestions with breeding the black & lav girls back to my salmon or blue boy? at this point I'm thinking blue?? What about the splash girls, stumped there too really. What are your thoughts?

You need a black roo.

You'd get black split chicks from a black x lav, black chicks from black x black (of course) and blue chicks from black x splash.

If you have to use one of your roos with the lavender I'd go with the salmon. I wouldn't mix the lavender with blue. Often you can't tell splash from lavender, or if a bird is both blue(splash) and lavender.

Ya, I know it's pretty warm right now - I figured I'd give it one more shot right now (well, next week) with not much in the way of expectations, and then if it doesn't work, I can always try again in a couple of months when it's cooler...

I'm so impatient, I gotta try again now... lol

P.S. I think it's also interesting to know what kind of 'breeds' or 'color lines' people created at one time but didn't take off. For learning purposes!

Love the pics. I have a few of them from the club that I got when I took over. I should go thru them again. Love the food coloring on the chicks.
