I also always find Peter's post informative. Sorry I can't be around more very busy with school hope Dick gets back into the conversation eventually. I have been having fun learning a lot about dairy production. Still missing the flock but I should be able to get some more from Leisha soon and hopefully have them up here in VT.
I just finished reading "21st Century Poultry Breeding" by Grant Brereton. He did a ton of work with pattern and colors of wyandottes, breeding in other breeds to get the genes for color or pattern and working on those traits while gradually bringing back type. Very interesting and educational for someone just learning. Great pics and descriptions made it easier - I said easiER, not easy - to understand. Me? Favs seem tough enough as it is - I'll stick with the basic. Good luck to you explorers!

Is there anything in Salmon Fav background that would give a boi stubs on his comb? The best colored one in my recent hatch has them, and he's from good Salmon stock.
And OMG I didn't realize how long I'd been away from this thread... SO SO sorry to hear about so many losses! Henry

I saw a fox down the street this morning on my way to work
.... in 20 years here we've never seen those. Must be all the new backyard chicken projects? We're next to foothills, but with enough dogs around that predators generally stay away.
DH had traps, years ago, long gone now. I'm asking for anything he can do, since our coops are not that kind of secure. Meanwhile the dog is loose at night, at least for part of the night.

Yes, that is very true. We have another show this week with a different judge. I'm interested to see what he says. The other judge was giving his honest opinion. It's possible that I just took it wrong since I was so hopeful that he would like my girls.
I am thinking about getting rid of my buff bantam line. I have 1 hen, 2 pullets and 1 frisky rooster. Not mean, just frisky. Oh and eggs in the incubator. If anyone is interested, let me know.
I'm kinda on break this whole week so I'm chillin, writin and playing with my birds. I will NOT miss doing 10 masses this weekend! retirement from this career isn't that far away and BOI I can't wait! I think it's only this coming christmas and next easter. that'll be ENOUGH!
So now's a good time folks to ask the over opinion.....lol

I am off work today, bathing chicks for the show this weekend. I hope my pullet continues her winning. The judge is Jeff Halbach. He has given me some wonderful wins.
