that's what I was gonna say!! And like leisha had said to me also. You've gotta get huge class of favs up there. Or as many as possible. Make it an "in your face" experience for the judge. The more he has to look at, the better he has to know the standard, or the quicker he has to learn it. Just like at the illini poultry show, Matt lahmon told leisha she made him work for it. That's how it should be.
Someone suggested that we put a laminated copy of the standard on the row with our birds. Not sure if the judge would appreciate or be offended for doubting his knowledge. My guess is closer to the later, but who knows. I'm a newbie so just my opinion with a little help!!
I was more talking about Maryland when I showed the judge said these were the first Favs he had seen in a long time. I did Ok with my one hen I got out of a breeder in RI who got her birds from Dick. I never got higher then BB and I was the only one with Faverolles at all. It was very disappointing! Also Maryland seems to be a big concentration of the best Silkies and Cochins in the US for some reason. We have some very good silkies in the Susquehanna poultry club it seems they are always winning BB at the national level if not Champion Feather leg. The judges seem to hate the "silkie people" ha ha when there are 50 splash silkies in a 1,000 bird show I am sure it can get frustrating. But I would love to be able to spread some good Faverolles around MD. I am sure OH and New England can be quite competitive.
