Where did you get them from? I have a busy day, work until 3p.m., wash 7 birds for the show this weekend in Kentucky, pack suitcase and truck, finish laundry and then sleep. Then tomorrow work until 1 p.m. and then head to the beautiful state of Kentucky. But I wouldn't have my life any other way. LOL

Those all look like pullets please post pictures of the cockerels. I would also love to know where you got them they look like hatchery birds but maybe not. They should start laying any time and that will calm then down. I have found some birds are nutty up until they hit the point of lay and then become tame after that its weird. Pretty birds though hope your enjoying them.

Leisha, are you showing at the BPA show in Frankfort? Oh, I wish I could go as I'd love to meet you - Frankfort is only 30 minutes from me. Plus, I've never been to a show and would love to go and ogle all the birds. My 1st batch of Fav eggs are due to hatch Saturday though and my husband says I am "not to leave him alone with them!". I think he's worried I'll blame him if they don't hatch or something.

Maybe they will hatch early and I can slip away for an hour or two. Hah! Fat chance I think.

Trust me its better to be out of the house while they are hatching then your not tempted to help or to worried to do anything else productive.

Yep its a problem I eventually just forced myself to leave the house and go to a friends house or go do something. Plus coming home to find an incubator full of happy healthy fluff balls is always fun.

Ha ha! I agree with you Henry. I have been through 4 hatches this year and by the last one I figured out that the best thing for me to do was to go shopping or something for the day. My husband is the worry wart. He called me 5 times in 2 hours the last time I left during a hatch! I kept telling him to just go away and quit looking in the incubator. Maybe they will start hatching tomorrow while he is gone to work so he won't have to stress over them. He tells me often about how these are my chickens, not his but I notice that he keeps a very close eye on them all.

Oh, funny story: I had 4 cockerels that were due to go to freezer camp last week. My husband usually butchers them for me but he is very busy this time of year and just hasn't been able to get the time so I decided that it was time I took over this job (after all, they are "my" chickens right?). I butchered one last Wednesday morning and one on Thursday morning. I had no problems but it takes me an hour per bird as I'm not very experienced at skinning them. I decided to wait until this week to do the other two (finished the last one this morning). I said nothing about this to my husband as I wanted to see if I could manage it all by myself. So, on Friday evening my daughter and I went into Lexington to a book signing by Alton Brown. We left before my husband got home from work. As we knew we would be after dark getting home, he agreed to take care of the animals (feed the horses, shut up the chickens, etc.) when he got home. My daughter and I were standing in line waiting on Alton Brown to arrive and I heard my text message alert go off. The message from my husband read "Missing two roosters, any ideas?" I just started laughing out loud and showed it to my daughter (who knew where the roosters were already) and she began to laugh too. My text response to my husband was "Try the freezer . . . really!" After a few minutes his message came back "WELL . . . You could have let me know sooner!" He had evidently searched all over for quite a while looking for the "missing" roosters before he sent me the message. I felt bad that I didn't think to mention it but it was really funny at the time!

That IS funny! And it takes me about an hour per bird too, so don't feel bad about that!

I feel like the skinning is getting faster, but it still seems to take me an hour...

Anyway, yeah, it's funny - my DH thinks my chickens are "stupid", etc...but when I am working during a hatch, I tend to get regular updates via text about how many have hatched, what color, etc...he even attempted to tell someone what kind of chickens I have once...it came out "lavender Faverolles thingies" though my lavenders are Ameraucanas...it was cute though!

Yes, I will be in Frankfort on Saturday. I agree you shouldn't worry about the hatch until the next day. That would be nice if you could come to the show
