Faverolles Thread

I am closing my flock for a couple years for breeding, if I use the female and then breed away from the silkie gene, would I eventually have pure faverolles again? I have limited stock to work with and the faverolle x silkie girl is my best looking of all the chicks

What color was the silkie? Single combs are recessive so they must have some form of walnut comb.

It would take several generations to get back to a pure faverolles. The silkie feathering wouldn't show up but off colors, off types, off combs and black skin could. That's not to say it wouldn't be a fun project.

The silkie dad could have been white or black I'm not sure. She has a single comb though and so does the other cockerel. They also have pink skin. /: I dont know. It was an odd hatch. It's probably not a good idea to use her then, and it would be easier to sell her or have her as a layer then work out all the silkie type and whatnot that may show up or whatever else she may be carrying if something else bred the hen. The donkey opening the rooster pen equals disaster for breeding. But I think the silkies were the only ones old enough to breed her.

Thanks

I only have some photos from like a week ago and they have grown and changed since but here are some. I can take photos when they are older as well if you are still interested in seeing how they look.

I think you're looking at the wrong dads.

You must have a fav boy somewhere. I don't see how you can get these offspring in the crosses you mentioned. A black x salmon breeding will usually result in all black offspring. White x salmon can vary depending on what the white is hiding. They look like pure fav chicks to me.

like Keesmom said, there must be full fav in those! they don't have any visible traits of silkies that would always show up in any crosses. rarely have i ever seen a silkie cross that doesn't have some sort of trace from the silkie blood-usually the comb, skin color or the head puff will show up, or those blue earlobes!
