No, he is the typical size for a bantam. So far a nice temperment too. Sits calmly when I hold him and no aggressive behavior. I also believe his dad was your old big black boy. I have a feeling he was out of a black hen too, because of his coloring.

I would breed the sussex looking boy back to the black hens you got from me. Do you have any more pictures of your F1 pullets?
Dick

I have 2 roos that look like Sussex, one a good size larger than the other. I had planned to use one (or both) with the black hens. I don't have any pics of the pullets at the moment as I'm in Maine. I only have 2 surviving cross pullets - the white one in the pic and a black one with some light silver leakage on the face and neck. The white has a great beard, some muffs, feathered legs and 5 toes on each foot. The black has an okay beard/muff, 5 toes and feathered legs.

Columbian will show in even one dose. The hackle patterning isn't as "complete" as the birds with 2 doses of the gene. True columbian birds will have complete lacing around the black (or lavender) in the hackles. My "columbian" roos also have a few orangey feathers in the wing, also because of the columbian gene.

Got this picture in an email, too good not to share!! Sharing it on all the threads I frequent. Wish I had one!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

I told myself I wouldn't, but I couldn't help it. I fired up the incubator, and set just a few eggs. 5 LF, and 3 bantams. Henry, the LF are all from that girl from Melissa that you like, and the bantams are all sired by Duncan!
