Ok, I have a question...I have a bantam cockerel that was shipped to me. These birds took 2 days to get here, and I thought he was dead when I opened the box. He started eating and drinking right away and seemed fine. When I was out of town the first week of Nov, he almost died (this was just a couple of weeks after I got him). My friend that was taking care of the birds took him home with her and kept him in the house. He had a vet exam with x ray, was put on antibiotics. Always ate and drank, and is growing normally. I don't know how old he was exactly when I got him, but I'd guess him at about 12 weeks or so at that time. I still have him segregated because while he acts mostly normally, he flips his head upside down to crow, and when I pick up the crate that he's in and move it, he is very off balance. When he eats/drinks, he dips his whole beak in the food or water and kind of flicks his head sideways rather than the way "normal" birds do it. He's always a little "woozy" looking, for lack of a better term (think Jack Sparrow - which is why his name is "Jack").
Any thoughts on this guy?

I had a really fantastic lf blue salmon pullet from Melissa that I sold asap because I saw her going after the other girls beards. I got her out of there before she taught the habit to the other birds.

Thats good I am sure its something I did that made the roo irritable. He has is fathers tail set and big blocky body.

It must be the Protein, I changed the food 2 weeks ago, to a mix from a local feed store, I'm not sure the % of protein, I will change there food tomorrow back to the old feed.
I have 1 red sexlinks that I think is doing it, the only reason I keep her is because she lays Jombo+ size eggs, and I can only keep 6 hens no Roosters where I am.

I'll have to keep an eye on them.

Funny how different breeders call the same symptoms different names. I asked the silkie's breeder what this affliction was and she said wry neck, so that's what I called this cockerel's symptoms. Yet you and Dick thought it meant something else...

Anyway, I assume there's something with this boy's head that makes him susceptable to these episodes so I won't be breeding from him. Too bad in a way since he had the calmest, sweetest personality.

I can't find the post on crossing Salmon Fav with Cuckoo Marans.... I have two crosses who I thought were pullets & now seem more like roos, but are perfect cuckoo color...I thought the chicken calculator said hens would be cuckoo & roo's black.. now the calculator is not the same.
Do you think they can be color sexed? They're about 18 weeks, so it won't be long before we see eggs or hear crows.
