Faverolles Thread

WOW. You are correct. HA Do I feel stupid. With the hours I work I don't know what day it is from day to day. Am I happy you wrote this. I got up a six this morning to get ready to go to the show and my usual routine is to have my coffee and go on the computer. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I think I would have been a little upset when I got there.
See what happens when you get old HA.
Dick

Haha! That's ok - you had me running around checking my Poultry Press and show web sites ad trying to figure out how I was going to get there! It would have been better for me this weekend, too - not so much work. If I can only make it for the day I won't get there before you have to leave for your granddaughter's birthday, so I may not come up. It was always going to be a squeeze, anyway. I'd rather save the gas money to come see you later in the Spring.

Remember to take pics when you go!!

I haven't actually researched it yet. I remember Henry had a few, I need to find out where he got them. If I was to do this I would make one breeding pen to cross my line into the hatchery stock. I would have to evaluate the young from this breeding. Usually when you breed birds from two different lines the young will be bigger than the parents. The only problem with doing this is you don't know what is lurking in the background of the hatchery stock. I would have to be very careful here. Disqualifications that took me years to get rid of, I wouldn't want to instill back into my line. Again, my birds still don't breed perfect because of the diversity in breeding I have done over the years. I feel that one of the best lines out there is Peter's birds. I think the last new blood infusion he put into his line was Britboy whom he got from me. This is why I love this breed. The challenges are never ending, well, for me anyways.

Hi All,
been busy but wanted to share the research I have done on the hatchery birds. Hands down from what I've seen on here Meyer. I have been in contact with their manager directly. However, from looking at their site recently they don't seem to be producing the numbers they have in the past. As in, it states "limited" on all the hatch dates for March. I've seen other hatchery birds and quite frankly I think they're a mess. Now. I'm sure I have not seen what is avail from all over the country but with the limited number of hatcheries i have researched. I shouldn't say really on here in public who to avoid so if you're considering that option pvt me and i'll tell ya. Building more pens this weekend...cranking the bator for the blus and lavs also. i'm crazy....lol
peter

Ha ha yeah the Meyer birds are a lot better then the other hatchery birds I have seen. There Faverolles are the ones that got me interested in the breed I had two hens from them a while back. Wish I still had them I would have gone to LF salmon Faverolles and use them for an outcross.

Here they are

I must say, I am learning so much just basically "lurking" around this thread. I thought hatchery birds were no-no s . But I am seeing that even they have a place. That being said, Dick do you have a hatchery preference???? Thank you, Junebug in Va.

I love them to because of that so many traits you have to get right. Very challenging breed. I got them from Meyer posted pictures of them above. I agree with what Peter said about Meyer.

Oh my, I don't remember reading that one of them was an EE.

Well, that would take a while to get out of the blood. But hey, at least the blood would be be a "real" refresher - being out of breed etc.
peter

No I meant the really dark dark brown bird standing upfront in an EE the girl in back is a Faverolles from Meyer.

Let see some Cochins and Wyndottes. I have seen birds from your line of Blacks Wyandottes then because I have seen some form Konechny I believe Foley's poultry has his lines but could be wrong. Sorry I am just getting to this but I read the post and then you edited it glad I looked back really I was just stalking the pictures of your faverolles. That Simmie pullet pictures is the background of my computer. Just reminds me every time I turn it on that I want LF salmons like that.

I would also like to see any wyandotte pics if you have them. They're another favorite breed. In fact the roo here who earned the title Best Roo Ever is an 8 year old BLRW roo named Moe. He could have better hackle and saddle color (too brassy) but personality wise he is an absolute sweetie. Even the girls love him which says a lot.

While you're in FL not far from Paul's Poultry, I think the Foley's have the best SLW in the country. Just beautiful.

You had partridge silkies?? Katherine LOOOVES the partridge girls we have. Unfortunately my least favorite color.

But to stay on topic, here are a couple of pics of the smallest faverolles pullet I've ever seen. She's half the size of a normal bantam.
