Faverolles Thread

Thanks for the pics chick. I'm pretty sure at that time the pullets exposure was to the splash and blue males. Since that time i can safely say they've been covered by sal, spl, blu, blk sal split, so there's even more genes in the pool now.-) Pullets could be olive eggers.

I am making on offer for a hatch due off Sun March 13 with over night shipment on Mon March 14. These chicks will include all of the blue egg chicks (24 working) and all of the black chicks from my lavender (12 eggs working) project breeding. Within these black chicks could be more splits that when bred together could produce lavender project faverolles. My hatches have been 99%. The count on the number of lav chicks vs black chicks from the lav splits has been out of three clutches: 1st 9 black, 2nd 1 lav 7 black, 3rd 3 lav 6 black. Double the attraction for some. Olive eggers and possible lav split blacks.
I will be offering things of this nature while I am hatching on different things over the next month or so. Let me know if anyone is interested in advance.
Peter

You're killing me! I WISH I had room for another variety of LF!!!

I have a chicken that was crossed with a Cochin and Ameraucana...I need to take a pic of her and ask you guys what you think about her as a project with Faverolles.

I will be right back....

Okay here she is.....

Her father was an Birchen Ameraucana & mother was a white Cochin. I don't know a lot about genetics, so I have no idea how she turned out blue/splash. All of her parents off spring looked just like her. She has a comb inbetween a pea and single (like a wavy short single), slight feather legs, beard & muffs, and lays a light olive color egg.

I know she is not perfect Faverolle material, but Peter has encourged me.....if he can make a Faverolle with an Orp, then I might as well try with mine. Now, I don't have a decent roo right now, so this will be for next year. I am waiting on eggs from some of the lovely LF Salmon Fav breeders.

Please tell me what you guys think....I can take it

Edited to say: sorry she wouldn't sit still she thought I had treats.

She's cute, but I'm guessing her daddy was an Easter Egger, because there aren't birchen Ameraucanas. Also, according to the online genetics calculator, a birchen roo x white hen would not give you blue chicks. They would give you 50% black patterned silver necked, and 50% black patterned golden necked. BUT since daddy was likely an EE, there's no way to know for sure what all is in his genes. That's really neat though that he's giving you consistent offspring. BUT, again, since you don't know what his genes ARE, there's no way to know how they would combine with other varieties. Now, if she is a TRUE blue (which I don't think she is) and you bred her to a salmon male, you would end up with visually black and blue chicks, when bred to each other would give you solid b/b/s AND salmon/blue salmon/splash salmon chicks.
Leg color and egg color will also be a problem, though the pea comb of the Ameraucanas is associated with the blue egg gene, so if you cull any pea combed chicks, the egg color issue should resolve itself faster...

I'm sure your right, her father probably was an EE. I tried to find the color on BYC one time.....he was solid black with silver on his neck and lacing in his chest.....anyway I no longer have either parents or I would have posted pics of them too.

Thanks for your comment Cloverleaf....it's nice to hear an opinion from someone who knows something about genetics.
