Faverolles Thread

I'm sure your right, her father probably was an EE. I tried to find the color on BYC one time.....he was solid black with silver on his neck and lacing in his chest.....anyway I no longer have either parents or I would have posted pics of them too.

Thanks for your comment Cloverleaf....it's nice to hear an opinion from someone who knows something about genetics.

You're welcome. I'm far from an expert, maybe others will chime in.

If you're so inclined though, give it a try and see what happens!!

The type isn't bad. Nice horizontal short wing. To breed with a salmon male you would really get a mishmash of chicks. Personally I would breed her to a black male, but those are hard to come by. I do have a black lav/split male I will be getting rid of but that would throw more genes in the mix and it would make it more difficult to where you want to go. You should breed it to a full Faverolles. I also have a salmon male if your interested.

Handsome bird. She would work well with a driect fav cross. I didn't just take an orp and call it a fav. The lav chicks are derived from a lav orp male on fav females making them 50% fav. You would do well, as Dick said, to use a black fav male. There just aren't very many around to do that with. What color are you wanting to produce?
Peter

I am not sure what color I am wanting to acheive. She is the only one we kept out of the crosses and she is 2 yrs old. Over the last 2 years she has produced the most beautiful mutts...sire to her hatches is a blue Cochin. All of her babies have been such a beautiful blue. And in my hunt to find a decent Salmon Faverolle, I always looked at her and thought about how her type was better than most of the really faverolles I have come across. Don't get me wrong, we do have breeders of Faverolles here in GA, but they are lacking in most of the important areas or anyone who IS a quality local breeder doesn't advertise anywhere.

So, in the mean time I am waiting for Dick to offer some LF Salmon eggs

I am glad I posted her pics here to get some opinions and to keep my day dreams going until next spring, when I have a quality rooster around.

That's really interesting that all of the babies have been blue...I wonder what she'd throw with a black rooster... Any chance her babies are old enough to breed together to see what colors you'd get??

Nope.... we sold all the babies last year, we didn't really have a reason to keep any of them. The only thing we have on the farm that is black is my daughter's Japanese bantams and they are way too small. Oh, and a WCB Polish, but I don't think that would be a good idea

I will have to think about it and see if I can get something black
