Faverolles Thread

I have a question re: egg size of the faverolles. I have had them now for 3 years. They are Great layers, but their eggs don't seem to really get large even after all this time. The other chickens eggs all seem to increase in size over the years. Is it just mine or what??? Don't get me wrong it's fine if they are always small, I was just wondering.

Ok all it's challenge time again. For those who will be at the fav national or even those who won't and just want to support it..... Donate some money!! You can do it in the form of a personal award or for just general awards. For example, I donated money to go towards bantam BB, RB and LF BB, RB. Maybe someone just wants some money awarded in memory of someone for best LF cock/cockerell, or how about the juniors, they need money too right? Ha. Maybe you want to donate towards best bantam salmon hen or whatever. Mix it up. The money doesn't all have to go to the BB. Also the more money donated in general the nicer prizes Leisha can arrange. If you'd rather not donate to a specific award how about do it so the winner could get a nice plaque instead of a small ribbon or something maybe? When my mom won BB at the Jap nat'l someone (a member) had donated a huge (like 2'x3') oil painting of a set of japs, framed and gorgeous..... Who's artsy? Just some ideas. After seeing the awesome awards mom received for her wins I got jealous. We should have a club like that. We have great members and awesome supporters. And even though we aren't a huge club we can still have a great national. Now I donated a nice amount. I don't want to say because I think it'll be a nice surprise to the winners to get a nice little chunk of money for winning. What a better reward for all our hard work? It doesn't have to be a lot, every little bit helps right??!! Ok so that's my challenge. Donate!!

Also donate for the raffle. That's a great way to make money for next year. The more stuff/busier table we have the more well make. Doesn't have to be chicken related,...... But I've heard those crazy chicken people will spend a bunch to win something with a chicken on it,.... even some chicken kitchen towels! Ha.

How can I learn more about Faverolles. I love the breed but my birds are nowhere near show quality. Most all of my hens have black in the muffs, I want to learn all I can and some day have show quality birds. I have standard and bantam Salmon Favs, The bantams have much better coloring.

Peter Merlin and Liesha Comer are 2 great resources for information. there is also a Faverolles Fancier Society but i don't have their web address. you should be able to find both Peter and Liesha on there. Peter's website is a good one for some breeding information http://peterfmerlin.tripod.com/Choices.htm . those girls with black in their beards are still useful if you have a light colored roo to put them with. they should help to create some nice looking boys!

i have noticed that when i've received eggs from other people that they seem very small and almost white compared to my original 2 girls that i still have. one girl has been consistent in giving me medium to large sized eggs about every day and she is about 5 years old. her niece is not as large yet but she is about 2 years old and i have noticed her egg size has been getting larger lately.
