When checking your baby roos for good quality what do you look for. What should the color look like and what should the toes look like? Does anyone have pics of a chic roo with good coloring, feathers and toes? I sure would appreciate seeing those pics and any advice someone could give me. I am having to decide between two roos on which I should keep.

Thanks,
MIchelle:D

Look at the spacing on the toes, and the leg feathering for now. They are much too young to judge color on, they won't "finish" as far as color goes until 8 months plus. You can also look at comb points right now. During their awkward adolescent phase, which they are entering now, it's too hard to judge fullness of beard / muffs, in my opinon. I don't like to cull for beards / muffs until they are more mature, unless of course they hatch clean faced.

There really isn't "good coloring" on a chick, it just changes too much on the boys.

Here's good spacing on the 4th and 5th toe:

You also want to make sure the leg feathering goes all the way down the outer toe, and it isn't on the middle toe (though a few stubs on the middle toe now may or may not still be there when it's mature).

Hope this helps!

Thanks, this is a lot of help. So the feathering should go all the way down the outside toe but, not the middle one? What should the comb point look like? I have one roo that has lots of feathers down its legs and down the side of its foot but, the other roo doesn't have a lot of feathers. I mean it has some on its legs and feet is this something I should be concerned with. I am not gonna cull, I would just rehome the roos I don't want. Thanks, so much you have been a great help. That picture is great.
