LMAO!!! Is Shirley the little one?

Yes, I was thinking the little one to be Shirley! I was also thinking the little boy that has a foot fetish to be Squiggy! LOL He appears to love feet and shoes. Tries to eat my toes when I wear flip flops and apparently knows if I where something other than my barn shoes when I see him. He has to check them out. LOL I am not sure how you told the boys apart but Squiggy developed more white feathering on his back when they came in and he was the last one to become fully feathered.

Does anybody know how the combs work in breeding? Is it ideal in breeding birds to always breed 5 points x 5 points?
If you bred a bird with 6 points to a bird with 4 points would it even out to a 5? Or would it be all over the board? I've been very picky about this last hatch, but I'm looking at their combs and I have 1 baby with 7 points, 2 with 6, 5 with 5 points (haha), and 1 with 4 points. Should I only keep the babies with 5 points, or can I be more lenient towards them? I will be hatching all year, so I will not be short of more choices. My main concern is the cockerels, as I am in dire need of one and I only have 2 to choose from.

Thanks!

Hi All,

I have a novice question regarding Fav's.

Been so busy, I cant even tell you how old our Fav's are now/how long we've had them LOL. They are still "little" (have wing feathers; a few to a stripe of feathers on their backs; and patches on their chests). In a few weeks, I plan to put them outside, and NOT with our other chickens for awhile yet (13 standard heavy hens/mixed flock). Will wait til they are atleast similar in size.

My question... How big/small of an area do they need for their temp yard? When it comes to "space" I tend to go overboard and give much more than needed LOL. I've seen what several others have for their chickens locally (not all were Fav's) and I thought most areas looked small.

My present chicken pen is 22' x 32' with a 90' x 60' additional area under construction as I type, PLUS another half acre or so lawn area that they wander on during the day when we are home. The area for the Fav's is to be short term, so I dont want to ask my husband to fence off more than needed:) Just planning to fence off a little corner, just not sure what size area would be appropriate.

We only have a total of 4 birds (one is a roo).

I have read to figure 10 sq ft for the heavy breeds, but they are smaller than Fav's. 40 sq ft just doesnt seem appropriate to me for four Favs... Input please? Thanks in advance!

ok, now for you newbies to faverolles, watch out for this one!!! carefully read this, this person seems to think that they should have 7 toes!?!? and i am pretty sure the hen pictured is not anything i would be breeding to get 'Salmon' faverolles! i may be wrong and they are trying to use her to produce better coloring on the males, but she is still too 'off' with her dark coloration.

please, if you are buying from someone listing on ebay make sure you read their descriptions thoroughly and ask lots of questions if they don't show enough pics of their flocks to get a good judge of their breeding birds!

RUN! Run Away as Fast as you can! Or here... I'll say something positive. If I were working on starting a BLACK line I'd be all on that!

Peter

Oh and I don't care how much it would improve male coloring.
