Faverolles Thread

If you outcrossed them (YES! They need it) you are seeing hybrid vigor. I feel that would benefit my birds a great deal at this point. I am not hatching for me on salmons for quite some time yet so it's interesting to see another generation down the line.
Thanks again

Peter, years (and years!) ago we discussed size but especially the wide, deep bodies. I can go along with Adore Me not being perfect. But Holy Cow! Just love her and feel lucky to have seen her. I see you have a very richly colored hen. How, or do, you make use of them?

Hi Dave, I'm not old enough to remember years ago.....smirk.
Yea the Adore Me pullet was extraordinary as most of the ones from that breeding and group were. I'm such a perfectionist.. Darker females. Have no choice but to use them currently. In a better season where I haven't lost all but a pair I would (hopefully) have other choices. I had started out last spring trying to hatch super quantities. By the time it was all said and done I only had the one pair and about 45 chicks to work with. It has been frustrating to be coming back from not breeding for 5 years from just a trio let alone with a major setback from loosing all but the pair. I'm not hatching for myself until my birds are older so when I do get to the point I can hatch 100+ my choices will be better.
Males, only had 3 to pick from in the original breeding. I have 8 on the property this season. Much better choices on them. There are quite of bit of major flaws in my birds at this time. It is the main reason I have not opened up to outside sales. I am in the process of NPIP testing again so maybe when that happens in the next few weeks I can go ahead. They just won't be proven producers like I was always able to offer in previous years.
Anyways hope all are having fun.

So I have 18 eggs from Pasofino Farms. LF Salmons. I believe they have some blue salmons also. Going into the incubator today. They came all the way from Texas to Washington. It only took one day. Fast delivery for shipped eggs. Hope for a good hatch.

This bird is from there:

And yes, their flock has blue salmons, and also carries recessive white, so you could get some white chicks as well. :) (at least this was the case 2 years ago)

Peter, wasn't thinking that the darker females had to be a bad thing. Was wondering if they helped to maintain color in the family or??? but figured they might have some use.
