Faverolles Thread

Hi!
I am seeking hatching eggs from Faverolles. Bantam or LF. Prefer some of the more uncommon colors, but Salmon is fine. I am looking to start my own breeding flock of these absolutely wonderful, rare birds. I am having trouble finding any Faverolles, Salmon or other colored. I'd rather buy from a private breeder than a hatchery for numerous reasons.
I had originally planned to breed Cream Legbars, but they are not recognized by the APA and honestly, they are not that hard to come by. A search on almost any forum and eBay will produce several available! I still want to have some, though! The Faverolles are few and far between anywhere one looks. And finding someone with colors other than salmon...pretty difficult.
I'd like to show my birds at some point. I know the statistics of hatching show quality...but I'm still going to go for it.
Please! If anyone has any leads for me, let me know!
Thank you!
where are you located?

whoo hoo! Just found out a cockerel I sold to a lady in Virginia is doing well at all the shows she has brought him to so far, I did not show myself this year, but this bird was from my own breeding so I am very pleased with how he has done. My Boulanger x Arthur pullets I loaned to a 4-Her are also doing well at the shows. Can hardly wait for next year, when I can show myself

You can buy Favorolle hatching eggs from Gabbard Farms..just go online. Good luck!!! I just ordered chicks from Ideal, not my first choice, but I tried to hatch some and no luck so I moved on.

...just a thought, if you want to raise up show stock, fall is not the best time of year to hatch. Babies grow best if the weather warms as they grow out, not the other way 'round. According to Dick the birds raised with the majority of their growth happening in the cold weather often do not grow to their full potential. Personally I have had the best luck starting mid-January in my area, but we have an early spring here.

In many places that's probably true, but those located in the south may have better luck with fall hatches. Then they're mature before the heat hits in spring.

I've posted this elsewhere recently as well....consider how many different breeds are offered by Gabbard Farms....very hatchery-like, IMO, hard to do one breed much justice, when you offer THAT many...again, my opinion...I have rarely heard a good thing said of them. Food for thought.

OK, I don't know who this post is directed at, because I don't know who did it, but whoever reported Peter and got him banned, you need to grow up and get over yourself.

You may not always agree with the things Peter has to say, but a better teacher, this thread will never find.

You should be ashamed of yourself, whoever you are.

I am thankful that I can call Peter Merlin a friend, and that I will always have him to ask questions, and seek advice from. I wish the same could still be said for the rest of this community, but cannot, because of one person's petty selfishness.

This post may get me in trouble, but it needs to be said.

I agree. I was very disappointed to find out he had been banned yesterday for merely stating his side of the story.

There are very, very few long time, experienced breeders out there. Even fewer have the time to come here and answer questions. Now we've lost the only one that was willing to spend time here with us inexperienced folks.

Quote: I think it stinks when some people can't just be polite and courteous in a thread and let people have their opinions. You don't have to even aknowledge said opinion if you don't agree. That is the beauty of reading. You can skip over skim or read thoroughly. I am always disappointed by some people who think they can rule a thread by being immature and "tattling" on someone. Not my idea of good people. I love the good sound info I can get here. Too bad I am now not able to get info from someone else who really knows his stuff.
