Faverolles Thread

I have my first two Favorelles in the brooder..they are not hatchery. Only a couple of the birds I have are from the feed store.
That is great to hear. Glad you got them from good sources and are trying out faverolles. They always are nuts when they are young but as soon as they are laying they calm right down.

That is great hope you can set some eggs. I am going to try and get a few pullets or eggs soon and get started with the LF salmons. Always had bantam salmons and blue salmons and bantam BBS when I had them back in highschool. I feel like LF are more my style so I am excited to hopefully get started breeding them.

I currently have 15 Salmon Faverolles in the incubator (6 days down, 15 or so to go). I have never had Faverolles but the DH surprised me with some eggs from a breeder of Faverolles. I am super excited about this but have never owned this breed. I currently have 15 acres with my 7 chickens (orps, rock X, polish, speckled sussex) roaming about 5 of those acres. By the time the faverolles are old enough they will have their own chicken yard connected to their indoor coop and a small run to keep them in on bad weather days. Any tips, hints, or suggestions for this newbie?

I have 20 week olds right now. When do they usually begin laying? What signs do I look for with them? Their combs are still pink, no squatting, I do notice that their wattles (or skin around the beak) is becoming darker, I am hopeing that is a sign. Any wisdom?

I am a newbie to Favs as well. All I know is they are so cute and soft.

. We have a mixed flock and they do tend to be a little skittish/passive as far as working into the pecking order. They would rather just get out of the way than try to dominate. The only ones I see them standing up to is eachother.

The only rule on this thread is that you must post pics as soon as possible.

What is your hatch date?

Quote: Yes! Pics as soon as possible!
I tried to integrate some Favs with my mixed flock. Has not gone so well. I am going to rehome 3 of my other birds because I am switching my flock over to Favs and EE's. Lucky for me, my two EE's get along great with my cockerel and pullet. I will be adding two more Fav girls that I hatched out earlier this summer. Then hopefuly next spring I can hatch out some of my own babies!
So excited!

I love these birds!
I was thinking about it today. I have Silkies, Favs and EE's as my favorite chickens. Seems I like the, bearded, muffed, and/or feather footed breeds. Lol!

I haven't posted any pics in a while.... Here's some from around the barn on monday. Have some older birds that are coming out of a molt and some of the older pullets running with them.
