Unless he has side sprigs, or some weird split comb, (or the wrong kind, GASP!) don't pay too much heed to the comb...that's easy to deal with later...

Also, don't want you to think I'm saying that all the chicks have to have perfect toes...as long as they're not fused, it's improvement... :)

Cloverleaf, I like your idea of using them and culling at the 'bator.... They do have good beards/muffs. Shouldn't I at least try one hatch and see what comes of it?

No, my boy doesn't have anything quite that funky, just an extra point or 2.... I really wish I'd gotten that pic today. Photographing chickens is an art form, I'm convinced....

I would...you've spent a lot of time and money raising them this far...and they are nice otherwise....

But again, see what the others say...

Ok, I got a few pics of toes for the critics out there - Cull hard! Be merciless! I can take it

This is pullet 1, lighter than the other...all of her toes have contact with the ground - DQ? Pic 4, look at the spacing on each foot, not a match....

Pullet 2, the darker one. Look at pic 3, the right foot toe placement....

I would do the same as cloverleaf says and cull hard at the incubator. Especially if they are your only two hens. You have to work with what you've got.

Yes, I'll use them, and maybe if I use them more than once I'll get a nice little chick or two

............I'm getting a 'bator! I can't stand it anymore! It would open a world of opportunities (Lord help us all

Make sure you get a good one! I have had really bad luck with the strofoam incubators. Finally splurged and got a brinsea octagon and I would never go back. Although before next spring I am going to invest in an auto turner and humidity pump for it I think.
