Faverolles Thread

Oh very nice. Where did you get your eggs from? Looks like you have 3 blues and a black.

I wasn't going to get into bantam fav's, but since I ended up with so few decent standard birds this year I just couldn't resist and ordered some eggs and here is the result. b/b/s and a salmon(could be blue salmon)

I had some splashes but not as chicks. The light blue one could be a splash. The one in the forground that is white/ salmon colored could actually be a splash as well. They can look white as chicks but you won't be able to tell until the wing feathers come in. Same with the blue you won't be able to tell until the wing feathers come in. There can be different shades of blue to as well.

Speaking of shows and Nationals...I need site suggestions for next years Eastern and Western Nationals...I have had one suggestion for the Eastern so far.

I will be sending out ballots in about a month so people can vote on next year's shows, and a couple other things.... :)

PM or email me with suggestions please, if you are a club member...

Cape Cod ('cause I missed it last time LOL)

Well the white one already has little dark feathers coming in, so I am guessing it's a salmon peep and I am pretty sure it's a little guy, he hand wrestles with me, completely fearless.:)

Anyone coming to the Eastern National in Lucasville, Ohio in a couple of weeks?
I wanted to so badly, especially with the APA National being there, as well, but I simply cannot afford it right now. My refund check from school should be here in time for me to attend the Ohio National, however, so I hope to see some people there. Sorry, Leisha - I wanted to show you how beautiful that little girl is that I got from you in Indy.

Ok I am late to the party... but I agree w/ the general consenses; use them for one season if they are all you have/can get, cull super hard at the 'bator (make enough per hatch so it doesn't get too depressing), and keep your eye out for better to replace them with. Personally, I would only use the second girl if I absolutely had to. The blond is closer to the shape you want unless the picture of the second one is just at a really funky angle. Either way I think the lighter girl is prettier.

By the way, the best way I have found to take decent pictures of chickens is to cage them on a table with lots of treats until they are comfortable with the cage... sometimes you have to do it for a short time per day, for a few days before they relax, and it does help if they are a tad more hungry then usual. Pretending to take pictures right before giving treats will also help tremendously. It is basically like training them for a show cage, only with the camera.

Thank you so much for the valuable input - the blond it is! She's a sweetie, a little shy....the darker one will peck at me if I reach toward her, a little defensive

.... I'll have to work on the training for pics!
