So, Clemence is either a hypocrite, or nobody is returning the "favor!"

I think if she saw herself in a mirror she would squawk "OMG, someone get all that nasty stuff off my face!!!!"

It's kind of like Survivor. You know what everyone else looks like but not yourself until you get kicked off. Then "WOW, did I lose a lot of weight and I look like a caveman as well!"

I'm told Yue (Ancona) was seen "helping" one of the EEs. Just what I need. That and the ermine we saw up by the house Sunday.
I know the voles are getting in but they are just cleaning up whatever food is dropped. The ermine could get through the same holes and they wouldn't be going for dropped chicken feed.
Now I have to hardware cloth the entire floor of the stall/coop.

And like Mary (Mame) said, those being pecked don't even snap back at them. The E.E.s are the biggest girls I have, you would think they'd have something to say about getting their faces pecked!

I think it must feel good to have their beards "groomed"....mine don't mind it either, but they're not going to the same extreme as you seem to be experiencing (I'm sorry!)

By "ermine" - you mean a weasel?! Yikes! Those things are blood thirsty killers, set some traps. Google it and there is a simple plan for a good trap for those things. It's so simple it 's hard to believe it works.... I've seen one around here, but it only seems to be passing through and hasn't found the coop - yet......

Thank you, he follows me and other people around like a puppy, he always expects everyone to have treats in their pockets. I think he freaked out the cable guy a little, Boba is quite big and runs at people when he sees them, but he is really sweet.

My pullets are really light too and I rather like it. I find them to be very pretty. Still waiting for the calico to fall of the boy and reveal a handsome cockerel like those above. Funny how they look so serious but are actually so sweet. I am worried about how mine are so small in the cold right now-- that they won't develop well because of it I mean. I am keeping them in the barn which hasn't dipped below 40 so far and trying to feed them treats--- they also eat in their own pen so they aren't forced out of the dish.

I'm a novice with chicks and young birds (my broodies usually do all the work!), but from what I read, as long as they're out of the wind and dry they'll be ok. I worry about mine too, it doesn't seem to matter what I read! Every night I get home from work I go out there with a flash light and check on them!

How old are your chicks? (can't remember) Do they have some good bedding in their pen?

The boys I just got are about 8 weeks old.....I have them out in their own tractor/coop, I moved them out there yesterday since there was a break in the rain and the temps got up to almost 50. I did staple clear plastic around 3 sides of the bottom to keep wind/rain out and filled the coop with a few inches of shavings. They seem to enjoy it, plus they can see the other chickens across in the big coop. It took them a little while to figure out how to get back up in the roost box, but I put their food and water in there to encourage them....now they're coming and going like pros
