I have never had to clip any vent feathers. Luckily most of the girls haven't been to fluffy. Haven't heard of it really being a common problem with favs. Hopefully he just figures out he likes her. Has he been breeding her or at least trying to? The roosters always have favorites in my opinion and it could be if you have a lot of hens in there that he just isn't getting around to breeding her very often.Hi! I haven't been on here in awhile. Been scary busy!
Just wondering if those of you who breed clip feathers around vents to help.
I have noticed that my oy is fertilizing my sexlinks eggs, but not my Fav girl who has been laying since Sept/Oct.
So I know he is fertile, but what should I do when I want to start getting fertile eggs.
I can try AI, but not sure I want to with that big boy. He's HUGE!
Any ideas would be great!
Thanks!
Kim
Quote: He breeds her and the other one. I only have 6 girls total. And 2 should be coming into POL soon and two have molted and aren't laying. So 1 Fav girl and I have one sexlink that I kept from my layer flock when I decided to just do Favs. I also kept a couple of my favorite EE's, but they are the ones who are just coming back from a molt and aren't laying yet. Maybe I should pair him up when I really want to get some fertile eggs.![]()
But it's good to know that I shouldn't have to do too much to help them along. My silkies are high maintainence as it is!![]()
Hi, i agree with Henry, If your boy is breeding your sexlinks there is a good chance your Fav. girl is also getting bred. There isn't a link between laying and number of eggs and being bred. When your ready to incubate, candling your eggs will let you know whats fertile. Good Luck,Hi! I haven't been on here in awhile. Been scary busy!
