I have all four at various chick ages...5 days to 10 weeks. My Australorp is the most stand-offish. Wyandottes are only a bit better. My Dominiques are good...but for me they roam farther than I would like...they don't seem to care how far they are from the pen...the others stay close...some won't come out! Remember they are all still various ages but still chicks. My Salmon Faverolles are too young to tell. They are my youngest. My friendliest are Buff Brahmas, Red Sex-linked and Easter Eggers although my Silver Sebrights are getting there.
I bought a lot more chicks than I want to keep. I will be over-wintering 12. Maybe a couple more if they are bantams. I currently have 51. The reasons are:
1. I only want 2 roosters (one a bantam the other a LF) and at most 2 of one breed.
2. I bought more if the chicks were st. run to hopefully assure the sex I want of that breed.
3. I want to see which breeds I like best.
4. My rejects will go in the freezer as soon as they are big enough.
