Favorite breed?????

Well like just about everyone else, I have tried several breeds and of course they all have their pro's and con's. So here is my breakdown....
RIR- nice friendly birds, beautiful lay a good size and amount of eggs. Still have one of them.
Black Sexlinks- same as RIR's. Still have one of them.
Comets- Good eggs quaility and friendly birds.
Orp's- Large dual purpose birds with the best temperments. I still have four of these for that reason. 2 buff
and 2 blues.
Black Marans- nice egg layers, however the egg color fades or its not a sure thing on dark choc. colored eggs
Roosters of this breed I feel are the best, my BIG BOY protects his hens with all his might and
is the friendlyiest and truely beautiful. I have one hen and a rooster of this breed left.
BR-good dual purpose but they are loud birds.
Brahama- big birds that lay a small egg, go figure. I have one left.
Auracana- medium sized birds that lay large colored tinted eggs, but flighty. I have three show hens left.
Easter Eggers- very friendly large eggs and lay more often than all of the other birds mentioned.

So after all that i will say Easter Eggers, simply because:
1. They are friendly.
2. Lay large eggs (colored) more often.
3. good sized birds.
4. They come in all different color patterns and colors!

Yes they win my selection of the birds I have owned.

I just have to speak up for my Black Aussies (Austrolorps), they are excellent egg producers, are gentle and come running like puppies whenever I go into the yard. I love all of my girls, but these have a special place in my heart.

I guess since I have 34 of em', I'll have to say RIR's. The girls can be so sweet(meanies if they're broody), however the roos can be very temperamental or downright mean. I do try to be patient with the roos as I understand that this is one of their non desired tendencies. I will be getting rid of the cockerels later as soon as the little ones are old enough to see what they are. I can tell what most of them are, however at this point some of them are still impossible to tell yet.

I love all of my girls (and boy), but I think I would have to go with my orpingtons and shavers (which I think are your red sex-links?). Orpingtons for their mild, greedy natures-its so funny watching those big clumsy birds come running a mile for food! And the shavers because they are so full of attitude and are so reliable with egg laying!

Dominiques!!! They are an old fashioned breed and not very many of them around. A good dual purpose breed. Appr. 240 eggs a year and also considered a meat bird. What I like, is how encredably sweet they are!!! They love to be handled! When people come over they are amazed at their gentleness and how smart and funny my baby doms are. My silver and gold laced Wyandottes are pretty and some are very tame but nothing compared to the Doms.......all were treated the same so I can not say I handled the Doms more or less, they just came out of their little travel box that way.

Lets see....The wifes Cochins? Nice birds.... The Jerseys? Certainly impressive....The Delawares? Great layers.....
I guess I would have to choose our mutts! Actually "key West" chickens. Colorful, great layers, they take care of themselves.
And a blast to watch!

Man it's hard to choose. I love my RIR's but my champion EE hen just has something over me. I have 2 BR's, 2 RSL's, 1 BSL pullet, 4 RIR hens and pullets and lots of mutts. My rooster Rusty is one of the most beautiful RIR's I've ever seen.
