favorite breeds and why? Or nominate your favorite individual chicken

My all time favorite is the silkie. They are so soft & I like that the hen has no comb. The big topknot is so beautiful they dont even look like chickens. I have white, black, grey & getting buff this may. frizzles are next favorite

My favorite chickens are the Brown & White Leghorns for their white eggs. I have also raised Brahmas, Barred Rocks, Wyandotte’s, Rhode Islands Reds, and Black Sex-Links, for brown eggs and for their meat since I do not eat commercially raised chickens and prefer natural free-range chickens.

So far my favorite breed is the Barred Rock but I seem to take a liking to any breed sporting black & white colors. My favorite chicken is Luc. She's an EE & sweet as the day is long.
This handsome BR devil is Atticus, who turned 19wks today.

Hi! My favorite of all 23 chickens I own is my speckled sussex rooster. He is such a gentleman. He stands back and lets all the girls eat first and he also does his beautiful courting dance. He,s my only rooster that does dance. The other 3 can,t be bothered!

We have a lot of favorites, but I've bragged so much on other posts about Whitey, our White Leghorn Roo, that I thought I'd pick a hen this time for the sake of telling a sad story: Her name was Mo; gray silkie/ frizzle cochin cross, and we got her as a chick with her mom and five brothers and sisters. She was the only gray one and was extremely timid. As they grew, her brothers and sisters began to reject her; we guessed because of her color, but she just couldn't make any chicken friends and spent most of her time huddled in the corner. We felt so sorry for her we began to make a huge fuss over her; she became extremely tame and got some self confidence too as she could brag she was the people favorite! She would come up and talk to us whenever we went to the barn til we picked her up; had her own perch and bowl, and did eventually make some chicken friends, including (yea!) Whitey! Unfortunately, she contracted ILT from some new chickens we bought at auction. At the time we had no idea what it was, and by the time we did, it was too late. She died suffering, and we cried like babies. Her picture is on our February calendar. We miss her terribly.

Thanks for listening!

Sorry, on re-reading my first post, it sounds a bit morbid; not my intention. Anyway; favorite breeds? Certainly anything with Silkie in it tops the list!
