favorite hen is sick--help please!

Thank you. Yes, exactly. She was also my tamest one and would come sit with me when I hung out outside after work. I really miss her.

She was also the top of the pecking order, so the other four are a bit stressed as they sort it out.

I am so very sorry you lost her. I too know that pain. The sad thing about chickens is that they are a prey item and they are masters at hiding symptoms that something is wrong until it is to late.

I don't = she wouldn't move, laid most of the time, had clear diarrhea and was shooting out soft shelled eggs at the rate of 4 in 36 hours. Someone told me it sounded like she had an infection in her egg laying system. I had 2 white Leghorns and got 2 white eggs every day until she got sick. I haven't had one single white one since and that was 10 days ago. In fact since then all my egg production has been down but I suspect it will eventually pick back up

How's everything going with your girls? My remaining four were out of sorts for several days--from what I read this is normal when a hen leaves, and Elena was the top chick. They seem to have re-established a pecking order now, though. I hope yours are all doing well.
