Favorite thing YOUR chickens do!

I love it when I squat down and my 2 Buff Orps hop on my shoulders to say "Hello". Last night I did this and one of my girls found my eye "interesting and sparkly". . . . . I had to visit the eye doctor with a laceration to my cornea!

The hardest part was telling the physician that I was "pecked by a chicken". The look on his face. . .. .priceless.
I am SO sorry but I laughed. I know eye injuries are painful and could be debilitating but having to tell a physician the cause just struck me funny. I do hope you heal quickly!

Every night between 10 and 11pm Pigpen will start crowing to come inside. I usually get home from work around that time and its become his routine to come in and hang out with us for a while.

I love the sounds they make. The happy purr cluck when I hold them and pet them, the curious cluck when I do something unexpected, their hunt and peck and scratch cluck. My Barnvelder falls asleep at the blink of an eye where ever she is...it's hilarious to watch her. They are so fun!

From their perspective, the favorite thing my girls do is conspire to use me as the centerpiece for a "king of the mountain" game. My EE and barred rock compete for the highest spot on any roost, even if that happens to be me.
My favorite thing is watching them chase my 200 lb. Great Dane out of their coop...clucking furiously... he's welcome to join the flock when they forage but he's not allowed in their coop apparently....

I swear chickens have the best personalities. My rooster is like a dog. He will find the dirtiest spot in the run and roll around in it and dust bathe and then strut over to me like he is so proud of himself. ..and then he will jump up next to me on the arm of my chair expecting me to pet him after he has rolled around in all that yucky stuff. But I was feeling kind of down because I was having a bad day the other day so I decided maybe a bit of chicken watching therapy would cheer me up. Wouldn't you know it but that silly rooster of mine came and plunked himself down in the flower pot next to my chair and kept me company for an hour..just letting me pet him and lifting up his wings so I could ruffle his feathers under there...for a whole hour! He has never done that before. He is such a sweetie. And at night when my hens are all going into the coop to roost he seems to want me to go in there to roost too. He'll walk up to me and then to the coop and back and forth seeming a bit bothered that I'm not following him. Eventually he just gives up and finds his spot to roost in the coop and I lock him in for the night with his girls...lol!

Here he is with two of his friends trying to get a snack out of my cottage cheese tub.

First let me say how much I love hearing about everyone's chickens and their antics....so much fun. :D I love Jeff and Oreo riding a bike together....that is the best.
I don't let them do it too often but my girls love to come in the house. The first time they came in it was hot outside and they looked at me like, " You have air conditioning in here?"
I agree about the bug chasing....one gets one and they run around like crazy...it is like a soccer match. Cold watermelon gets everyone in a frenzy and they stuff goes flying all over the place.
But really the simplest things are best....having them run towards me and crowd around me so I can barely walk. I know it's only about the food but it still makes me feel good. :)

gryeyes, don't be sorry. . . I found the doctors visit hysterical!! My eye is feeling better and should be healed within 5 days. This morning Jess (my Buff Orp) hopped on my back to say hello; I looked as far away from her face as I could.
