Favorite treats for your chickens

My two girls love cooked SPAGHETTI ! I hold a piece for them and they do the "Lady and the Tramp" thing - each starts on one end and meet in the middle. Too funny!

Our chicks, Ruthie, Greta and Flora, love most vegetables, cantaloupe pulp/seeds, and corn tortillas.

Mine love corn cobs but love more if it is the whole corn, cooked or raw. They can clean ear of corn faster than i can and I love and could live on corn on the cob.

they have also attacked several small birds that have came into the run. Luckily for the birds they got out soon enough.

I give mine little pieces of cheese. When I make my son's daycare lunch I use mini cookie cutters to cut slices of cheese into star shapes for him (his favourite shape right now) so I end up with all the little bits of cheese left over. I hate wasting them and the chooks love them so it's a win/win thing for us. :)

I offered them a half broccoli head this morning and they looked at it, looked at me a bit quizzically, and them tried to eat my thumb instead (since it was apparently the closest thing to food they could see).

Silly chooks!

Mine like bread crusts, crackers, waffles....but they LOVE scrambled eggs. I give them the leftovers whenever we make them.....they scarf them up in seconds!

#1 is mealworms or crickets, tuna out of the can they go INSANE for, maters, blueberries, kale, spinach, melon rinds-they don't like the meat so much, just the rind? apples, grapes....white millet, they hate the red millet, cukes, cheese, lunchmeats...I could go on and on...

i saw a link about permaculture and chicken keeping, where they suggested making an easy source of worms (maggots really). The instructions; 'Take a 5 gallon bucket, drill some holes into the bottom and around the sides of the bottom. Hang it a foot or so off the ground. Toss in kitchen scraps, rotten meat, dog food etc to attract flies. To prevent it from smelling, toss leaves, straw, news papers on the top. The flies will lay eggs, which will pupate and the maggots will fall out of the holes and the chickens will grab them right up! It sounds like a natural, healthy food, (non GMO too) and the chickens would probably love it. If its a small bucket, and placed out of the way, it shouldnt be too unpleasant for the hen-keeper either.
