Favorite treats for your chickens

they will pretty much eat anything! Bread, Sunflower seeds, tomatoes, melon, popcorn, COOKED rice (ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS COOKED! anything raw like that- like rice,pasta,grits- will expand in their stomachs and kill them) apple chunks, yogurtttt. like I said, pretty much anything

I use defrosted frozen corn (in the bulk bags)... Boil up a pot of spaghetti, and cool it down, and watch them do the "wormie" dance... And fresh mealworms and crickets from the pet store.

Mine are wild for yogurt and they also love leaf lettuce from the garden. I threw in some parsley for them a couple of days ago and it's all stll there so I guess they are not fans of thAt.

Our newest favorite for my older chickens is sliced almonds. They go bonkers for them. My middle crew has discovered that there are Japanese beetles in my bushes and that is what they want more often than not but they still will eat bread if offered. My littles are pretty much crumbles only right now but they won't be 3 weeks until Monday so they are still pretty young yet. In another week they will get their turn creating havoc in the large pen while the others have their separate pens.

My girls treat every treat like it was the best thing ever!!! Dont matter what it is,almonds to zucchini. They make a shark feeding frenzy look like a peace rally.

This morning I was sitting on the driveway enjoying my cup of Quaker Oatmeal squares (I'm a closet cereal addict

) and one of my super skittish leghorns came up so I gave her one. Next thing I knew they were all over my lap, stealing from my cup, off my spoon... I swear if I had any in my teeth, they would have cleaned them for me. I was completely in shock. I had never touched one of these leghorns without them freaking out and now here they were accosting me for my cereal. I was so happy

As for other things: crickets, grapes, tomatoes, cucumber seeds with the goo, grubs, scrambled eggs, chicken, and CHEESEBURGERS... my kinda chicks

Mine will not eat worms, kefir, bits of carrot, and all leafy greens (except for grass and clover). Weirdos.

My girls love "left overs" scrambled eggs LOL...oats....leftover hotdogbuns (but not too many) whatever...and sometimes I just grab cucumber from garden on way down to pen and throw it to them...they love it. or also dried out crackers....that kids left unsealed......

Strangely enough mine love stinging nettles. Unfortunately my property is loaded with them but thankfully my chickens love them! When free range they choose them over the rest of the plants and when in the run I throw some leather gloves on and pull a handful of the nasty plants for them and the all come running. Its a win, win

With my old flock I would give them the dead minnows left over from fishing trips and they would all go nuts for them. Cat food and rabbit pellets were also favorites

Love the nettles idea, as it sounds really wholesome, organic, pure food, they will love you for it, and you will love their eggs for it all the more. I found plantain in the garden, mine love that too!
