Help me please with "Alternative" from the 70s to the 90s, that brings a pretty broad range to my mind. Do you mean like Alan Parsons "Alternative" (in which case, we have most of it on CD and vinyl}? or New Wave/Synth Pop "Alternative" (I've a few), or??? 90s Alternative for me was "Adult Alternative", the Tori, Sarah, Enya, Clannad, October Project, Yanni period?

Bands like the Pixies, White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, Talking Heads, T Rex, the Cure, etc. Enya and Yanni are more New Age music, which I'm not into.

I like instrumentals and country music, especially old country music...I also have a few favorite older songs, but I am not sure what category they fall in. Instrumentals are nice though. I am okay with classical music, but I don’t really prefer it...

I have one of their (sadly, heat damaged) records. In the same box with the King Crimson (similar condition). I was wondering why I was unaware their career had spanned such a long period.

T Rex wasn't a huge success in the US. Bang a Gone was their only hit over here I think. They were very popular in the UK and Europe though with over 10, top ten hits. Bolan died at 29 years old when his girlfriend drove into a tree in 1977 ???

Don't know much about King Crimson.

I like 60s music too. My parents played it all the time when I was a kid, so I know a lot of it. Really anything that's good and has some originality will float my boat.

Don't know much about King Crimson.

Honestly, King Crimson had better cover art than music.

That said, they had a huge influence in the "almost there" sort of way that excited others to take the road King Crimson offered, and do it better. and like a lot of bands of that time, a number of musicians more famous elsewhere came and went thru their ranks. Greg Lake, Ian McDonald, Bruford, etc.

(My ignorant opinion only. I will happily sit down to hours of Yes, ELP, Supertramp, and others they influenced, or who influenced them - but I need a drink in hand and to be in the right mood for King Crimson. They did the experimental themed album thing, which either works (Alan Parson's "Tales of Mysteries and Imagination", Pink Floyd's "The Wall", The Who's "Qudrophenia" or it really doesn't, and all of them you have to be in the right frame of mind for)
