getting ready to dispatch the meaties and want to invest in a GOOD vacuum sealer. not a namby pamby gonna burn out, over heat and stop working type.

who has what? what do you like/dislike?

any info would be great....because perfectly preserved frozen chicken is tasty chicken!

Thanks for posting this, miss_jayne. I don't have any recommendations, but I am in the market, same as you.

With the amount of knowledge on the BYC, somone will have good input, I'm sure.

i agree, someone has to have a good one. i just am afraid to buy one 'blindly' and then be unpleasantly surprised while packaging 103 meaties.

and you are more than welcome...i only posted it because i sensed your needs!

I have one I have used for years.
its a Food Saver from off the shelf at Walmart.
The bagging material is a bit expensive but well worth it.
I cant tell you how many Deer and Chickens have gone into these bags. plus One van struck moose.
The trick to food sealers is not to overstuff the bags , ensuring a tight heat seal, leave yourself enough room at the end to seal properly.

As long as you keep the heating element free of dust and fluids any brand of sealer will last a long time.

The $40.00 one off the shelf at walmart is no better or worse than one of the most expensive ones I have found.
My first one was one of the top end , I cant remember the exact name it worked wonderfully but unfortunately it didnt survive the house fire 3 years ago. I replaced it with the cheapie walmart one and havent looked into getting a more expensive one as yet.

hope this helps.

I have a Rival Seal a Meal from Wal-mart. It was $40. I have had it for 4 years now and haven't had any troubles with it. We will be using it also to vacuum seal our meaties in a few weeks.

Hope this helps.

it's the lip gloss....

I have a higher end Food Saver I bought at Costco.

I do have some problems with it. It works great for fish, beef, pork,
and spices.

It doesn't work with shrimp or anything with a shell that can poke a
tiny hole in the bag.

It doesn't work that well with chickens either. Half the bags I pack chicken
in seem to lose their seal and puff up, making them no more effective
than a Ziplock.

The other problem I have is Foodsaver doesn't make a bag that will
fit a chicken 6 pounds or larger. For those I now use the larger zip
lock backs (2 gallons and over) which still cost a lot.

The bags cost a LOT too.
