Hello! Thought I’d see if anyone here had advice.

There’s a fawn down by my garden, no idea how old. It looks to me to be a week old or maybe a bit more, still has spots. I know mama can leave baby for hours and hours, even over night. Mom has come back once that we know of to tend to her baby.

The only concerning thing for me is that this baby tries to stand and then slams back down to the ground. Seems to be licking its back legs a lot. I’m unsure if it’s injured. We’re not disturbing it or trying to feed it or anything, but at what point should it take off with its mom? Just wondering at what point I should consider calling a Wildlife Rehab center if it’s still here, continuing to show signs of not being able to walk?

Maybe the folks at the Wildlife Rehab Center could give you some advice? I hope the little thing will be okay.

Yeah, I might call to see. It just took about 6 steps before falling, which is the most I’ve seen it walk in 24 hours. I wonder if it’s dehydrated or something and weak instead of injured. It’s been so, so hot.

Look up your county's wildlife rehabilitator. We have orphaned fawns; their mom was hit on the road. So I've been doing a bunch of research on this.

If you don't see the mom for 24 hours or so, they can come out and assess/rescue it. It's easier when they're younger vs when they can walk.

If the mom comes around each day, I think they would suggest to leave it be. I would still put in a call just in case.
