Hi there! I have a 6 week old French Black Copper Maran, and I'm trying to figure out whether they are likely a pullet or cockerel! It's the only one I got in my chick order so I don't have any others to compare to. Really hoping for a female in this case since we probably can't keep a full-sized roo here (yay suburbs).

It's 6 weeks old, gender specific hackles and saddles don't come in for at least 6-10 more weeks...

Oh.
But, a lot of my hens have huge combs, wattles, better spurs than the roosters, etc.

Besides the comb that bird has a lot of color in its hackles. That much color that early is also a good hint it's a male. I also see a little color on its back. I'd suspect in the next few weeks more will come in. Color in that area also means male.
