FDA raids Amish Farm

I followed the related links back, and I could not find any data on how many got sick.........if its just those two people, I would be suspicious of the "positive" tests.

The other thing tha tbothers me, is that if you show up in the ER with food poisoning, one of the first things they ask you, is did you drink raw milk.
If you say yes, they will not ask any more questions. Nothing is done to find out what else has been eaten, and where.
Case in point, was an outbreak in Wisconsin. 80 people got sick. 40 of those people were raw milk consumers. Half of those people had been out of town and not gotten that weeks milk.
All of the 80 people had eaten at the same restaurant.
When health officials were questioned as to why the restaurant was not inspected and tested, they said it was not the problem, and that raw milk was to blame.

Only 20 out of the 80 that were sick, had consumed raw dairy.

This is only one of many instances.

The issue that Organic pastures went through was very interestin gas well. one child in a large family got sick and died. The whole family drank out of the same jar. The far tested negative for anything.
That child also at e food that no one else had eaten.
But, what got blamed? You guessed it? The raw milk.

ETA: Forgot to mention that the other 60 people that said they did not drink raw milk, were sent home with minimal treatment.

Oh, thank you, but that might be a bit far to drive everyday, lol!
Have you ever made your own?

that's why I was kinda hoping to invite somebody out who knew what they were doing

Maybe we can show you how spring after next. Meanwhile, youtube is really cool. Full of awesome how to's!

Would it be possible to do regular bacterial cultures yourself to see if the milk is safe or unsafe? Like more than just on the regulation testing days that is.

Also, has a college or university done any study on Milk versus Pasteurized/Homogenized Milk? Not government funded, not backed by one special interest group, just a general study?

*Guilty of not reading all the posts*
Hi! My pal has a liscensed and inspected RAW GOAT MILK DAIRY. She, being the conscientious individual she is, , has her herd, facilities, and herself tested more often and for additional things than are required.
I can name at least 4 other folks selling raw goat milk under the table in my county. Not me, not me... I wouldn't drink sold-from-under-the-table untested raw milk.
I apologize for interrupting.

If the owner drinks the milk, that is all the testing I need, would you not agree?

I'm sure one could figure out a way, but, to live in constant fear of an all natural food that has been drunk for thousands of years, and only caused lots of problems when swill dairies became the norm, and then commercial dairies that feed only grain and hay and never the natural food that a cow needs.......ehhh!
We like our milk from animals that are fed real food, and are naturally healthy.
Not being continually pumped up with antibiotics to keep them going.
Know your farmer and his practices, and you will get good milk.

I will check with my sources on studies later on today.

I do know what is found in mainstream medical journels.......It is proven that pasturized, homogenized milk clogs arteries. That it causes Johnes disease. That because of its sterility, it is the perfect haven for all kinds of yucky stuff to grow.
You can prove that on your own counter.
Pasturized milk becomes putrid, but raw milk turns into the most lovely cheese.
Sorry, rambling a bit. Septic is causing issues, so I have been handwashing all our laundry today with a washboard. Just a wee bit tired!

PaulaJoAnne - I drank milk, not heat treated or pressurized for years and didn't have an issue. If nothing else I would buy my own darn cow to get real milk. I hear they have cute miniatures now.

The issue with having a cow is a) can't have one where I'm gonna be living unless I have it on BF's friend's property, and b) BF can't drink the milk. He's had straight from the cow milk and it still upset his belly. I would have to give extra away to people,

and I know just handing out free milk to those that need it would be outright atrocious.

Heck maybe the college I'm transferring to would have a bio class in which I could test real milk to store brand milk myself. They used to have a small farm they ran for a while, they probably still have some agricultural science courses. Might be a worthwhile secondary degree.

Heh, heh, heh, BF is gonna think I've gone ripe crazy with farming all because of chickens!
