Feather color changing!

Purple sheen and purple barring are different. Purple barring is caused by a vitamin deficiency so they are missing proteins that build the feather.
I have noticed this on birds before. Purple lines crossing the feather.
That is why purple is generally undesirable and the standard calls for green. However, a purple sheen can be selected for that is not related to a vitamin deficiency but rather genetics and is quite pretty. The purple barring is pretty too but ≠ good.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to explain it! I would mostly be breeding, not showing, so i was just interested how the sheen carried on, how the color changed, and if the colors were undesirable. Thanks again fo answering all my questions!

Same bird, yes.

It's unknown, so I'm going do some experimenting with her next spring. @nicalandia thinks it's mottling, though there's no mottling in her parents background.

I have parent pictures if want to see them.

It seems interesting but is pretty old. It’s good that it confirms I think purple barring is sometimes genetic like the hatchery birds I have seen it on.

Mottling can hide for generations before it reappears.
