We had 2 issues in our flock, a guinea continuously attacking our black australorpe, Gretchen. Guinea was rehomed about 2 weeks ago. Then an outbreak of lice. The rooster, Captain, had a particularly bad case of the lice. We treated with permetherin twice a week apart and have not seen anymore lice for at least a month.

Gretchen's back/rump is still pretty bare and the feather stumps look like they might be having trouble breaking through the skin? Am I worrying too early?

Captain's butt feathers are still not growing in and the ones that are there have some poop on them. His skin is also super red. What should I do with him?

The feathers are broken and the shafts are still intact in the skin. Likely new feathers will not come in until they molt.

Redness on the rooster is likely hormonal.
Thank you. I was afraid of that with the feather shafts. Do I need to worry about sunburn or anything? Is it painful/should I get her a saddle?

Good to know about the rooster. I was pretty worried after everything for him to still be so red.
