Feather Lice - at least I think it's lice??

I had one girl with quite a few lice eggs near her vent after she was treated and bug free. I found that they didn't wash off easily, but I had used a small scissors and clipped the worst feathers off. To clip around the vent you need to wrap the chicken up so that she can't flap her wings and she will relax. Not particularly love it, but at least not fight. If you have someone to help by holding her while you clip the feathers, that can be eassier. I used the poultry dust and it worked great. Made a "powder puff" out of a panty hose leg (filled it with the dust and tied a knot in the leg and just powdered them thoroughly especially around the vent and under their wings and bellies. I now do that periodically as a preventative.

I love that powder puff idea! FANTASTIC!

Oh I am using this method too next time.Thanks. Last time I just put dust in my hand and rubbed it around on them.Way less loss using the hose.

I have been battling with lice this season as well. It's farm too warm and wet here in the Northeast for winter. I hold my girls upside down by their feet and dust their bottoms and under their wings. This seems to work pretty well.....they just hang there, relaxed.

Thanks Sassycat! It's been very mild here too this winter and very little snow. Lots of freezing rain though. Tomorrow is bath day for the one and they'll all get another dusting. I'm going to use the powder puff method, it sounds awesome!!
