I picked my orpington up this morning and felt a bare spot along her keel bone. I've noticed her tail feathers were looking a little ragged and thought she might be going through her first molt.
I do not see and signs of lice. There were a couple of small dry scabs on the area that were flaking off - kind of like dandruff. I dusted her with sevin dust and put her in a box with white paper towels for 20 minutes. I found very tiny specks that look like tiny grains on sand on the paper towels but we have sand in the run so that might be what it is. She is eating and laying fine and showing no signs of going broody.
Her vent area looks normal. I am concerned with how red the area is and how saggy it looks. It looks like brain tissue. Gross. This is a terrible picture but she is a BIG girl and it was hard to get a picture by myself.
