I kept that hen separate for over two months but still there are no feathers around her tail and now a small hole in the skin. It is still the best layer.I leave it open for a while for foraging and dust bathing. Any solution? Will application of spirit do any good?

I would check very closely for parasites and cover the wound with BlueKote to help keep her from picking at it.

If you don't want to use the Blue Kote, since she is by herself, could also try pinless peepers on her.

Giving her stuff to play with... like dry leaves or a flake of hay, to keep her occupied, can also help.

Grateful Alaskan for such a quick response. Actually, I never found her pecking at herself. I am keeping her away as everybody else pecks at her as she once got unwell. For two months she is in another compartment. She is very much afraid of others.

if it hasn't healed up after 2 months.... and no one else has access to her....

Then either she has a HIGH extern3parasote load (mitrs, or lice, or both)

Or she is pecking at herself.

It could also be both things, parasites that cause her to itch so she chews on herself.
