Feather loss on Balck Astrolorp!!

My Black Australorp just got finished molting. She had the same look going on there for a while (not quite as severe though) along with missing feathers on her underside and around her rear. She looks so pretty now with her new feathers! Just give it a few weeks and see how pretty your girl is again.

It's a twin picture to my red sex link hen that did a strange molt in late December/early January. I was sure she was a) sick, b) hen pecked, or c) had mites or lice. Her issue proved out to be none of the three. She seemed to lose more and more feathers day by day until one day...she looked just like a porcupine with quills all over her neck, a naked neck in the coldest part of winter. Soon I saw little tips of feathers emerging, and now she's fully feathered. Took over a month, but she's a gorgeous girl again now. Be patient. Wait and see:) ~G
