Feather loss

OK thank you... I have had chickens for 6 years now and I have never seen feather loss like this for molting!! Exp when she lost them all overnight. I guess she is just a crazy molter. I feel like a noob now lol

LOL, don't feel like that.
That sure is a hard molt for sure.
Same thing happened with my 4 year old white leghorn, Pearl.
POOF! and she was bald. It does take you aback!

Not sure why you have the saddle on her? Is it to protect her from roo damage?
If not, you may want to remove it because the pin feathers need air and light, plus the saddle may damage her new feathers.

Thank you! . The saddle is because of rooster boy. He is breaking feathers... but it took him awhile to do it. He is not doing it on purpose. He is a pretty good boy otherwise, I hear they can sometimes cause some significant damage. He took on a Great Dane!! The Dane had no intentions in hurting the girls but he did not know that!.

I have two silver laced Wyandotte chickens about 1 1/2 years old. One lost feathers overnight just as JustASnake described. The other hasn't lost any that I can tell at this point. Could she be molting? What can I do to protect her from the cold. In Virginia, so it won't be terribly cold for a while and the chickens have a nice home with cedar chips. Should I add more chips? Should I place a heat lamp inside the "house"? I hate to see her go since she is my best broody chick. She's hatched 5 eggs thus far - none her own!

She'll be fine. Just increase the protein intake to get those feathers grown in as soon as possible.
