I have two 3 week old Narragansett poults and am very anxious to find out their genders. I've vent sexed different breeds of animals before, but never turkeys. Not only have I heard that it takes a lot of practice, I've also heard that you could permanently damage them. So I was wondering if there were any other indicators I could look for, such as feather color, feather shape, head shape or the larger and/or earlier development of snods or spurs that could help me determine their sexes at this early stage in their lives.
Thanks for your help.
P.S. They were born on the same day, yet one's snod has definitely grown larger than the others in the past few days or so. Could this be an indicator of a future Tom, or just the result of a growth spurt. The one with the larger snod is also the smaller of the two if that helps at all.

I'm glad you've asked this! i have a bronze turkey that my daughter "had to, had to have, because mom he is soooooooo sweeeeeeetttttt". We did initially get two but one passed on. So now we have this turkey named Mushroom, that is like a big sis/bro to the chicks. They cluster around it to stay warmer and it lets them. Very sweet actually, even though I was warned it would pick on the chicks. But I would love to know how to tell if it is a tom or hen! I have never been brave enough to even think about vent sexing...
