Feather Shaft Mites...

This is the closest I could find on the internet...

The worm looked like a long, skinny maggot. And the feather shaft was cracked similar to the first pic below.

The avian vets out here in Missouri don't know how to properly handle birds.

I might have to take her out of state for proper care, but she is old and I don't want to add more stress to her... But I just might have to if the other things fail to work.

So that says feather mites, so treatment would be permethrin products, there are premise sprays that can be used in the coop or on the birds, or powders that can be used on the birds if you don't want to get them wet. I'm going to assume it would be the same schedule as for other mites, at least three times at weekly intervals until you've gotten them all. I know Elector PSP is supposed to work for other mites with only one treatment, but not sure about feather mites, they are so much less common they aren't talked about as much.
 
I put a few feathers that fell off of Molly into a zip lock bag and the "mite" or whatever it is came out of the feather shaft and I took a couple of photos of it...
