I recently purchased baby chicks and they lost their feathers on their breast area. Is this due to poor bedding? Thanks.

Did they actually have breast feathers before, or just down?

I have one breed that tends to lose the baby down faster than the actual feathers grow in. So many times they look bald in slower-feathering areas (back, breasts, etc) until the feathers come completely in. And it's just that one particular breed that does it, the others are fine.

So perhaps that is the issue you are having?

Ok that might be it. It was the down I'm sure. I put fresh cedar shavings just in case nice and fluffy.
