Featherless bums

My chicks are only a few days old and two of them have no feathers on or around their vents and ones seems to get covered in poo very quickly. Any reasons why they are like that????

Do a search on pasty butt here or in the baby chicks section. Have you been having to clean poop off them? When you do, put a little oil on them so it won't stick so bad the next time. Veggie oil, Crisco, Neosporin, Vaseline, whatever is handy.

I would guess it is a little too warm in your brooder as well. If it is a small one, like a plastic tote, I would try to find something bigger with better circulation. They need to have a cool place where they can get away from the heat if they want. Be sure they always have water.
