So last night I helped 4 chicks a little early and wrapped them all up with moist paper towels and I am happy to report when I checked on them this morning 2 hatched on their own and the other two hatched shortly after with just a little more help! 19 out of 22 (thought there were 23 earlier but I miscounted), not bad! Who is in for March!!!
HURRAY!!!CHICKIES!!! Congrats..Iwill be in for March too...LOS and lbs fpr sure and i think i have some coming in the mail not sure if Feb or March

Okay so today is day 21 1 of the dropped eggs passed away in shell & the other is fully hatched out & looks like a chipmunk so far. 4 more EE eggs have pipped - I ended up making a hole in my quail egg (feared it had passed away too) turns out it was double yolked & had 2 formed chicks 1 was dead & idk it the other will make it as there was NO room in there, we'll see, least I know it has a better chance than it had w/ it's head stuck in the middle of the 2 lil bodies in the egg.

Hoping for more to hatch thru the night & to see some action on my jb eggs. Next hatch will be jb & quail eggs -

-now to try and catch up on the past posts!

I candled the basque eggs tonight- lockdown tomorrow- 10 out of 10 are good! WOW!

While I had the bator open decided to candle the frizzle & call duck eggs too. Not as good of news on them- of the 10 frizzle eggs shipped, I've only got 4 developed. Of the 16 call ducks shipped only 4 of them developed. I was not expecting much from the duck eggs, they were not well packed & air cells were terrible in most of them- so I'm kind of happy to even have the 4. Disappointed in the frizzle eggs tho

This is why I normally don't candle until day 17-
Bummer Pug!

What about this. Not a great pic, but to show size a bit better. Cynthia, would you really pull it? She's still in the hatch box. She had another one hatch today, Chanel, my little blondie!!! I'm keeping them in there for now. I don't want the other 2 to mess with this. I have to work tomorrow so I can't stay here to watch them :( They can go up to 3 days? Emma just hatched at 9:30pm last night. I felt it & it's firming up.

I would leave it, it should dry up & fall off on it's own. You don't want to risk hurting the chick...

I have wigglers!

The kids were so excited to see the eggs moving that they went to bed early tonight in hopes of waking up to watch a couple of chicks hatch tomorrow hopefully. They aren't due until Tuesday but I am thinking that due to the still air incubation and having my temps a little higher, they are going to come a day earlier.....well. some of them at least. :)

It's silly how excited we all were to watch the eggs roll and wiggle. This is our first hatch. We've got 28 eggs that we set a couple of days ago and then I just did the math for eggs I have coming this week to set......um......abut 60. I'm so glad I built 3 incubators and the I have a friend that is going to drop off her "real" incubator....... I do have to loan out two of mine at the end of the month so I may end up having to build myself another one.......I hope the doctor I get the coolers from comes back from vacation and gets more meds before then! LOL

That is great!

Hello all!! Ive got a broody sitting on eggs right now- 5. I am setting more in my new lg in a day or two. I have a question I dnt have a hydrometer so is there a way I can add what the humidity should be to the temp on the thermometer? The temp has been holding very steady since last night. I turned it on about 24hrs ago. Ive not filled the water holders yet ...

Thanks!
I dont think so.Temp can be 104 and humid 85 or dry as a bone
You can get a hygrometer at a cigar store for like $6 for a good one or even some cheap model on a thermometer at Wally Really need it for lockdown You should keep it about 35 ish until lockdown then about 65 from day 18 -21 so they dont shrink wrap .

This is not a hatch question- but it is about chicks... Fri I got in the shipped choco orp chicks from the lady in GA. They were in pretty bad shape, 4 days in shipping w/ one of the chicks dead. They & of course the box smelled awful! Anyway I posted when I got them that they looked weird, like going bald? I'll try to post pics tomorrow- anyway, I first thought they'd been picking each other, but I just don't know. To be on the safe side (in case they have some kind of bugs) I dusted them with food grade DE, also changed pine bedding & added De to the bedding as well. They are eating very well, plus I'm giving them that save-a-chick electrolyte in the water. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me?
