My JB are due to hatch feb 25th and again on march 6th. I have a staggered hatch going. Im also going to be setting more eggs for the easter hatch along

. I love your JBs very pretty, I cant wait to see the tiny babies. Oh and for quail Im not sure how many I would want just yet. Im not ready for them. I need to wait atleast til spring so I can get housing built for them. What color eggs do they lay?

Not too much longer to wait! As soon as the rest of these eggs hatch I will be setting back up right away w/ over a dzn quail & over a dzn JB eggs. The coturnix start laying around 6 wks old too so they are fast little growers.

here are the collected eggs so far - in the middle is a jb egg & one of my EEs. At least 1 of the 3 lay eggs w/ a greenish tint on the inside of the shell. They are really good w/ the laying, & they have really short molting periods!! Mine just went thru a molt & only stopped for 10days

I am so jealous choc orps OOOOHHHH !!! My last hacht they losttheir feathers and had bald spots One iswear he was akost naked.al lthe fuzz went and the feathers were so late!
He still has a naked leg but the rest came in ....!!gues its normal but dont know.

Thanks Rox- I hope it is normal, only thing is when I got SFH chicks in @ 4 wk old, they were fully feathered. Then the day b/f the cho orp chicks came I got the shipment of lav orp chicks. The lavs look fantastic! And they range in age from 1-3 wks like the chocs, so I don't know? Then I thought maybe it was something w/ the choc gene? I guess time will tell, but GEEZ LOUISE the poor things are BUTT UGLY right now

And both the lav & the choc are 100% english. The 3 chicks I just hatched on Sat are also english cho orps and they look like normal little chicks

don't know what to think anymore...

See a piece of shell below a LO egg that was suppose to hatch 2 days ago...its a little gooey and ...wrong end!

Not sure if that will come out al l the way there but who knows its undeneath if its coming
Had to add about 10 others LO eggs to the lockdown bator too today
.HATE to open but what can you do? They were due in lock down day18..... yesterday!! !( whoops forgot them)
So may have jeapordized the hens choice and the newly locked LOs too Will see .
I had one once i forgot and it started to hatch in the regular bator ...saw the star crack and moved it into lock .it was fine so can be ok

.Candled my 8 lav EEs and 7 of 8 look good! Day 11 So excited

What about this. Not a great pic, but to show size a bit better. Cynthia, would you really pull it? She's still in the hatch box. She had another one hatch today, Chanel, my little blondie!!! I'm keeping them in there for now. I don't want the other 2 to mess with this. I have to work tomorrow so I can't stay here to watch them They can go up to 3 days? Emma just hatched at 9:30pm last night. I felt it & it's firming up.

Oh, ok then...that is larger than I was thinking..nope, leave it alone..she'll just have a big belly button..and, as she grows, it will be smaller on her larger body. Interesting, she didn't absorb all of that before she left the shell. Just leave it. Sounds like she is getting around pretty good. Eating, drinking?

I agree, this looks normal for some chicks. I thought I would see some red skin where the bald was when you posted about it earlier..but that really does just look like the pre teen look. They do seem to be a bit more bald than I've seen before. I have to wonder what their living conditions were. Now that you are taking good care of them, I bet you see a difference in no time. Now we have to see them once those feathers come in! Pretty color!

I have a feeling their living conditions were less than ideal- when I wrote to question the seller about the baldness, her response was that they had invested a good deal of money the year b/f to buy the parents hoping to start breeding & selling. They didn't know much about the birds, just 'tried to do the best' they could. She said they did look a 'little funny' to her, but she didn't have anything to compare it to. They lost the parent stock to skunks, so decided to sell the chicks they had hatched. That's how I got them- so she was NO help. I am still learning about all this, but at least I try to read & research things so I can keep learning & improving! I hope they will feather out well, they are on a good diet now & clean so we will see.

Went out this morning to get the coop ready for the nasty weather coming in, went in to gather any eggs. Didn't figure any would be out there, most are usually laid between 10-12 in the morning, well the broody was on her eggs, the big rir was in her nest sitting on her head!! Next to her my "bella" my little wy was laying her egg. The wy finally finished-hopped out. The RIR was still sitting on the other wy-broody, alice was pecking the snot out of Louise, Louise was squawking her head off. I pick up Louise, and Alice to see if Alice was sitting on any new eggs, she wasn't. Well I went ahead and put the RIR-louise back in the favorite box to finish laying. Well Alice hopped down thought she would want a bite to eat and a drink-NOPE, right back to the nest, under Louise pecking the mess out of her. So I picked up Louise and when I did-plop her egg went, but I caught it.

All the while my leghorns while holding alice and louise are fighting to get in the box, my polish are trying to find a spot in the box too. Alice coming unglued seeing others in her nest.

MAYHAM!!! Crazy girls!!! The boys are circling my legs trying to see what the fuss was about. My cochins were ticked because they didn't get any snuggles this morning, gave me the evil eye!!!

Well, over the last 24 hours I've had 13 hatch! All silkies!

Out of those 13, 10 are catdance silkies. 3 are my own. One of them looks quite interesting, its parents are buff and black, and it hatched out black with gold around its eyes. Like eyeliner Really beautiful though!

Those catdance chicks are gorgeous! Lovely coloring. If anyone was ever thinking about getting some, do it. Their quality is not exaggerated, they are wondeful.
I will take some pictures soon, but right now some are in my brinsea hatching or just hatched, some are in my little giant drying up, and some are in the brooder. But when they are finally all together, I'm going to go nuts on pictures!
