FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

I had this a few weeks ago, silkie chick was spraddle leged & toes curled under. I took a bandaid, cut it long ways in half. The little pad in the middle of the bandaid is the lengh a part the legs need to be, so you put it in the middle of the legs, then wrap the sticky ends around each leg. This holds the legs together so they can stand. Don't get it too tight together, that way they can fig. out how to walk with the bandaid on. If her feet are curled, let me know so I can tell you how to make 'boots' to correct that too. I had the bandaid brace on my silkie for about 4 days, then she was fine- you can not tell she ever had a prob. Only thing is, if you are going to help her it needs to be started b/4 she is 3 days old- hope this helps!

Okay so the leg popping out of the joint is called spraddle leg - I always just thought they couldn't keep their feet underneath from the type of flooring.
She hatched early today & when I moved her out the the bator(lined w/ non slip) & into the brooder, I noticed that one was a little off - gave it an hour or so then wrapped the legs & band aided them close. I have another chick from my Jan hatch that has a really messed up joint- it's much larger than the other & it's foot is kind of twisted been wrapping her leg more straight & have to boot her foot so she wont hobble on the joint. If this new one can get along as good as or better then I'll be a happy momma!
This pic of her shows it kind of. see how it angles in @ the joint like weak knees. I plan on having this ones (Wobble) & my jan hatch chick (Krip) together in about a week or so. because Krip is 1/2 the size or less than it's hatch mates.

Went in to go to bed...almost midnight on day 21. hnes chioice . nothng.... then a SFH decided to pip!! HUM. Might get a chick or 2 after all
See what morning brings me
The Lo egg that was late i think pipped at the wrong end today hard to tell but see a piece of shell must be underneath it ..and nothing more Will know when i can open the bator which i cant as i have others on day 19 in there.!! Tonight while I was putting everything into lockdown, I realized my incubator's water supply ran totally, completely empty. I've been checking it from the outside and it looked full, but when I opened it today to do the final candle I realized that it was just a shadow making it look like there was water. I don't know how long it's been this empty. I candled last Wednesday and I *think* there was water then but I can't be sure. Did I ruin my hatch? I candled after I realized this and couldn't really see anything but I did see movement so I have hope. I added a lot of water for lockdown.

Do you think it will fall off? Am I trying to dry it or keep it moist? I want to soak it & cleanse it, but if it's to fall off I don't want to inhibit that. The nurse in me is freaking out!!
You really don't have to do anything, promise! You want it to dry up so that it will harden and shrink. It's ok if the chick doesn't absorb it at this point. Mine was very similar. It was weaker the first few days, but after some sugar/electrolyte water and food he perked up just fine. You could try making some mash with ground up feed mixed with the water to make it applesauce consistency. That way you're sure it's eating something. I don't know about the goopy vent, but what I did for mine was take it out of the hatcher and rinsed it off with warm water when it was drying out because there was fecal matter on it.

The only real complication from this would be mushy chick disease, which is basically peritonitis from bacterial infiltration into the abdomen. However you can't do anything to prevent or treat that unfortunately, but it doesn't always happen.

I use the dry hatch method to incubate. I only add water when the humidity drops between 25-30% so I think you will be okay. At lockdown I up the humidity to the low 60's and then when I see the first pip I up it to mid-high 60's.
