FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Killing me!!!! I need the next week to move on by already!!!! Cannot WAIT!!! My mo got me a baby playpen to use as a brooder til I can find a good armoire to turn into my "pretty" brooder!!

So I lied... I have 6 pipping right now! I guess the vocal chick really encouraged the others. I'm just waiting on one more. I'm not too worried since they are all almost two days early.

Whoot! They're going to town! Or should I say, they are coming to town.

This is killing me! I hear lots of chirping, but other than pips, no progress. If I look closely I can see movement in the egg but that's it. I just want them to come out, especially since one of them keeps talking to me.

This may be a dumb question, but is it ok if chicks hatch completely in the dark? See, the incubator is in my room, and it's about time for bed and I'm going to have to turn out the lights. I'm assuming they'll be ok, hatching in the dark? Or should I leave a light on for them?

Turn the lights off, go to bed, wake up to a cute little chirping sound in a little while, right when you were just starting to get to sleep. Seriously, hope you get a good nights rest, they can hatch in the dark. It's dark under the mama hens tummy.

Lol, thanks. I just now realized that, it is dark under momma's tummy.

What? Your broody hens don't leave the lights on for her chicks? Hmm... I must have the deluxe model momma hen then. Has the light on, plays soft music, even puts on her apron and whips up a batch of muffins while the chicks are hatching!

Oh wait... no, that's me. Sorry. LOL

Hey guys I just candled my day 14 barred rock eggs but I wasn't sure what I was looking for exactly. In all four I could see dark masses which I assume are the chicks and good air cells in the wider part of the egg. In one I could see lots of veining but in the others I couldn't. Which one is good or bad? Or could my poor light be the reason I didn't see any?
I am a newbie at hatching eggs also, but I had the same problem. I had a cheap flash light from walmart that onlly gave off 30 lumens of light. I was having a hard time candling and seeing very much, so I bought one that is 88 lumens and I see much better. Good luck with your hatch!!!!!
