Thanks to you and brooks both on what a star crack is! So I assume that is a good thing, right?

I just popped on to say that I am picking up some Sultan fertile eggs today!!! EEK!!

(parent) I swear if I could have a rooster, I would be snatching this pair up. She is selling the pair on CL but said she will sell me the eggs she has collected this week today. (note to self...make another incubator) Just wanted to share!!

Oh beautiful! Now we will both have sultans waiting to hatch

The new eggs I am waiting on (should be here next week) are sultan, bantam polish both smooth & frizzle. The lady put them together for winter, she said the eggs she's been hatching from this pen have been pure polish both smooth & frizzle, pure sultan & some polish/sultan crosses. She said the crosses look like colored sultans. I am so excited over these eggs I can't wait

Good luck to him bowling & to your hatch! I can't wait for yours to hatch.

So after hatching non-stop for 8 months now I always dread cleaning the hatchers because of all the mess. The last hatch I did I lined the bottom of the bator with paper towels and then just set it up like normal. When it came time to clean it yesterday I just took everything out, lifted the paper towel out and voila, no mess to scrub out. All the poop and shells came up with the paper towel. It took me like 5 minutes to clean. Unbelievable that it took me so long to come up with such a simple idea.
I know right? We over think @ times I believe when the easy answer is right there. Thankfully for me, by hatching in the 'mini' I just wash it out between hatches.

Checked on the eggies and all is good! Temp is holding right at 100, humidity is 45-50%. I'm fixing to go turn them. I am so excited!! I am dying to go outside and see Alice's chicks have hatched. We are frozen solid! I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ready for Spring!! I will take pics if I have any babies out there, I'm going to be so bummed if we don't get chicks this weekend. I will keep you all posted.

Your temp is great, but I'd watch that humidity- it might be ok, but honestly I would lower it some. When the humidity is high like that days 1-18, the air cell does not get big enough, then chicks will drown while trying to hatch. It's better to have the humidity too low during the first 18 days than too high. I know everyone has their own opinion on stuff like this & of course where you live has an effect as well. Good luck

Ya'll my bator looks like popcorn popping over here!!!!!!!! So far 4 have hatched (3 @ the same time) & 5 of the other eggs have pipped- only 1 left that has not pipped yet. This is so great! I'll take a group shot when they are all here

Wow, the mental image I got over this was super hilarious! Little egg shells exploding and up flies chick after chick. Of course in my crazy brain, the little flying chicks are already dry little puff balls and for some reason they are all smacking the top of your incubator. Poor kids! LOL.

No babies yet from the broody, I hope they come tomorrow much warmer. I set another 18 eggs in the bator just now. Pug thank u for the guidance, I want to learn so I will try your method. I will keep you all posted!! Thanks y'all!

Ga :I'm jealous...I will be expanding my polish pen this summer. Congrats!!!

your mental image is not far off! those eggs were nearly squeezed in that little bator, so when the 3 all hatched @ the same time (and they were all in a line next to each other) there were little pieces of shell flying! I had to take them out of the bator after hatching so they had room, also to give room to the other eggs. we were all laughing over here watching it! when I was a kid, Mama got one of those hot air popcorn poppers, when it heated up the popped corn would fly out the top- that's what these chicks looked like!

Aww, maybe they will come later today or tomorrow! I'm still waiting on my other 6 eggs to hatch

What kind of polish do you have? I just love the look of them! Do you have the bantam or large?

I've heard of that backfiring on some people, as the paper towels can wick up the moisture from the hatching chicks and dry them out.

Gapeach I have a sultan (my avatar <3) and they are such funny little birds! I actually just ordered 4 chicks from the feed store to join the eggs that are hatching in a few weeks :D

Good to know. SO far I have done 2 hatches with my own eggs and have 100% on both.
