FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Mbfarms - I am using a D-Link DCS-942L. It is a security camera that has ir night vision, a mic, and motion detection. It was $149.99 at Staples but what I really like about it is that you can configure eMail notifications that include a picture or video every time motion is detected. I have only been using it since Friday but so far so good.

The one caution I would tell you is that I have not figured out how to stream the video to a website. Right now it is only sending the feed to a free website provided by D-Link. I am not saying it can't, I just have not figured it out yet.

I will be setting some tomorrow. Everybody else has their babies :/ I have to wait 3 weeks. This is my first time incubating and I'm setting 43 eggs. All different mix ups. I hope all goes well.

I just read the post a while ago about the rubber mat stuff! WHY didn't I think of this??? I ran out to walmart, grabbed a roll & got it in the brooder with Sugar Peeps & Lila (thats what I've named the 2nd chick) then I took the band off Peeps, she still has 1 boot on & OH my word! Peeps took off nearly running!!!!! The rubber did the trick! Poor Lila has been laying on her tummy w/ her legs strait out behind her. I have been sitting her up as much as I can, but she always pitches over. Then I came up w/ and idea- now I know this is gonna sound weird- BUT I had to do something. So I got an empty toilet paper roll, cut it to the length so that she is in like a sitting position. Then cut out little notches for her legs to go in. After putting her in it, I put tape just under her legs so they don't fall out the slots. This way she can be in a more natural position and she legs can not flip back behind her. I'll have to take a pic later so ya'll can see what I am talking about. Anyway, crazy as it sounds it seems to be working. I'll leave her like this tonight, tomorrow I'll take it off to see if it is helping to train her leg to be where they need. This happened to her when she hatched & kept scooching around w/o getting a grip on the STUPID PAPER TOWEL like ya'll were talking about earlier. I am learning so much from BYC!

tomorrow is hatch day for the 6 lav orp eggs- I KNOW I'm NOT supposed to open the bator- but I also have 2 crippled chicks right now b/c they could not stand after hatching- So I cut the rubber mat to fit the inside of the bator, opened it long enough to put it under the eggs, then closed it back. I hope I didn't make another mistake, but I was afraid not to as well...

The first one just hatched! It was a long night but he is chirping like a champ! One more is starting to zip. Nothing from the remaining two yet.

As long as you kept the humidity level up in the bator you should be okay.
